Special Event - Coppice Raves Bollywood

February 2015

Bollywood came to Coppice in February in celebration of different culture and tradition.

After an interactive assembly, discussing the value of the School and LTE (Learning Trust of Excellence), the whole school were excited about the cultural experiences they were about to encounter.

During the week, the children explored different values and traditions with the highlight being the participation in a Bollywood workshop.

Over two days, all children had their chance to shine. Everyone dressed up (including the Teachers) and took part in workshops where they learnt how to dance in the Bollywood style. In the workshop, children learnt different Bollywood dance moves and poses and played warm up games such as 'Bollywood Musical Statues'. Once they had practised using the different moves, they had the opportunity to dance to a whole Bollywood song. At the end of the workshop, there was a dance off!

In a finale assembly, the children had the opportunity to perform their year group dance in front of the whole school. At the end of the day, the event was opened up to parents who were able to come and learn with their children in their own workshop.

Children really enjoyed the event which received a lot of positive feedback. Imogen from KS1 commented that "It was so interesting to be able to dance to different music and learn the dance moves".

The workshops were made possible thanks to the PTA who had agreed to fund the experience to help support the children’s understanding of different cultures and traditions.
