Special Event - Year 4's Harvest Collections

16 to 21 October 2013

Year 4 have been looking at the why and how people celebrate Harvest festivals. We discovered that it is a time to celebrate and be grateful for the food that we have. We wanted to do something to help people who do not have as much as we have so we decided to hold a Bring and Buy Toy sale.

We decided to donate the money to a charity called Send a Cow. They help and support people in Africa to grow crops and raise livestock. If we raise £14 we can buy them a piglet. If we raise £20 we can buy them a chicken, and four mixed fruit trees. Some of the countries that benefit from the charities help are Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda.

We raised £91. With this we will be able to buy a 2 bag gardens, 12 mixed fruit trees and 4 chickens.

We also decided to try and help people in Birmingham who do not have enough money to buy the food they need.

Foodbank is a charity that helps people by providing food parcels to feed them for three days. They rely on donations of food from the public. We wanted to help them by collecting non-perishable, in date food.

On the 21st October Foodbank came to collect our donations and were delighted by the generosity of the families of Coppice School.
