Sports Clubs

We offer a wide variety of sporting clubs to our pupils.

Football

Following the recent success Coppice teams have enjoyed in and out of school hours in local football competitions, an after school club will run for girls only during the Autumn term 2011.

Our boys football teams will be entering 6, 7 and 11-a-side competitions for Years 5 and 6.

John Richards is a good teacher and he always has a good laugh. He will always tie our belts for us if we need him to. We call him Sensei – that means teacher. John always helps us with the student creed. I enjoy karate and it makes me feel good because I believe that it is something that I can do. Also it is after school which mean that you can go straight from your classroom.

I love karate I look forward to it every week. Zen-Shin is a brilliant teacher and teaches us how to be strong inside and outside. I love karate because it keeps me fit.

What I like about kickboxing is I learn to listen and learn to follow instructions. I have learnt how to do pushups and sit ups throw punches blocks and kicks. That will help me if someone builies me. I train hard every lesson. Last week I won the trophy of the week. Sensay told me if I continue like this in three years I'll get my black belt. I really want a black belt to be a good fighter.

Gymnastics

Due to its overwhelming popularity, we have retained the services of the Aspire Sports Health and Fitness gymnastics coaches. They will run sessions from 8.00 to 8.40am.

Each child will be offered milk and toast before returning to their classrooms for registration.

Basketball

This is a new Club starting in the Summer Term. It will be taken by our own Basketball Champion, Mr Webber.

Hockey

Outdoor hockey club is very popular and we have a member of staff taking this club to get them ready to enter the annual competition at Wyndley Leisure Centre.

Netball

Following a season playing only 'friendly' matches, we have entered the local school league this year and are looking forward sending teams into the end of year tournaments.

Cross Country

The tradition at Coppice of producing high quality distance runners looks set to continue for years to come.

Training sessions run during the winter term. The training involves regular one mile runs to improve stamina and general fitness, technical inputs to improve the running styles, and strength training to prepare for the indoor and outdoor athletics competitions.
